1961-62 Eastman Philharmonia European Tour – Eastman Weekend 2012

SPECIAL RECOGNITION OF THE 1961-62 EASTMAN PHILHARMONIA EUROPEAN TOUR

It is hard to imagine that fifty years have passed since the historic Eastman Philharmonia European Tour.  I can hardly wait to see all of the familiar faces and reconnect as we celebrate and remember this monumental achievement during Eastman Weekend, October 11- 14.

To commemorate this historic Tour, there will be a special Eastman Philharmonia European Tour Memories Luncheon on Friday, October 12 from 11:45 am to 1:15 pm at the Inn of Broadway. This will be an opportunity for us to reconnect, reminisce and share our unique stories, experiences and memories from the Tour.

Later in the day, we are invited to visit the rehearsal of the current Eastman Philharmonia, which will take place from 3:45 pm to 5:25 pm, as they prepare for their performance on Saturday evening.  This will be a unique opportunity for us to observe and meet the next generation of Eastman trained musicians. Taking place in Kodak Hall at Eastman Theatre, the Philharmonia will perform on Saturday at 8:00 pm as a part of the opening concert for the Prismatic Debussy: a festival celebrating the 150th anniversary of Claude Debussy’s birth.

In addition to touring the spectacular new performance spaces, attending special concerts and programs, the weekend will provide an opportunity to view the Philharmonia European Tour display across from Howard Hanson Hall comprised of various memorabilia collected from the Eastman archives.

You should have received registration materials for Eastman Weekend in the mail by now. I hope you have had a chance to send in your registrations by mail or online already. I look forward to seeing you back at Eastman to celebrate and honor this extraordinary milestone together in October.

Sincerely,

Ralph Loomis, BM ’62
