Dr. Blaire Koerner is a freelance bassoonist, educator, and entrepreneur.

At a time when classical music is being diminished from American childhood education and experience, Koerner strives to re-enforce music’s importance and availability through a variety of efforts and collaborations including innovative performances, educational initiatives, and endeavors connecting the community.

As a New York State bassoonist, Koerner has performed in a variety of large ensembles, operas, musicals, recitals, and studio recordings. Some ensembles she has worked with include Ensemble Signal, Society for Chamber Music Rochester, Buffalo’s Slee Sinfonietta and Syracuse’s orchestra Symphoria. In addition, Koerner has performed internationally in Austria, Italy, Germany, France, and Switzerland with American Music Abroad and the contemporary soundSCAPE Festival.

A seasoned bassoon teacher, Koerner maintains a studio of all ages and experience levels. At the Eastman Community Music School, she teaches bassoon and the Honors Wind Quintet ensembles, receiving the Jack L. Frank Award for Excellence in Teaching in 2016. In addition, she is adjunct bassoon faculty at Syracuse University’s Setnor School of Music. From 2015-2018, Koerner also taught secondary bassoon lessons at the Eastman School of Music.

An avid entrepreneur, Koerner actively pursues opportunities to understand all aspects of the music field and to hone the necessary skills in a “do-it-yourself” market. She is a board member of Rochester’s Pegasus Early Music, has been published in The Eastman Case Studies, and runs the Eastman Leadership Conference and Academy. Koerner is a career advisor at Eastman’s Office of Careers and Professional Development and University of Rochester’s arts community at the Gwen M Greene Center for Career Education and Connections, where she assists students in exploring their musical goals and preparing for a lifetime of music.

Blaire Koerner received her D.M.A in Bassoon Performance with a minor in Collegiate Teaching from the Eastman School of Music.
