PATHWAYS ENTRY EVALUATION

Eastman Pathways is a scholarship program, not an entitlement.  Students must earn their scholarships and annually reapply.  When students have been accepted to Pathways, they receive an entry evaluation from the ECMS teacher which documents the level at which they began the program.  This evaluation is used as a comparative tool at the end of the 1st semester to determine progress made and documented on the annual Mid-Year Evaluation.

Students who have been in Pathways but are assigned to a new teacher will also have an Entry Evaluation completed by the new teacher for the same purpose.

In order to continue in Eastman Pathways, students must show progress through the ECMS curriculum.  Each new student receives a copy of this curriculum for his/her instrument when entering Pathways.  Your evaluation should document progress through this curriculum.  See www.esm.rochester.edu/community/faq/student-curriculum/

PATHWAYS MID-YEAR EVALUATION

Each January, Pathways teachers must complete a Mid-Year Evaluation with his/her Pathways students.

Purpose: The purpose of these evaluations is two-fold: 1) to document progress of the student in relation to their level in the fall, and 2) to inform the student of his/her standing for continuation in the program next year.  (All Pathways students must reapply annually during the March/April application period..)

The Mid-Year Evaluation Form is available in both electronic or hard copy form.  Select your option – complete online interactive form, save and return, or print and complete and submit by hand.

Each January, the Pathways Coordinator will send you a copy of your Entry evaluation completed for new students.  This is to be used for assessing progress made since the beginning of academic year.

Completing: Complete all portions of the form: Student, Teacher, Pathways recommendation box.  Some teachers like to complete their portion ahead of the lesson and simply cover that portion as the student completes his/her part.  Or, others have students complete theirs first, then you complete your section in the lesson.  Be sure to share and discuss the forms – a lot of learning goes along with this.

Decoding ranking 1, 2, 3:
3 = student has met and exceeded expectations; will be continued in Eastman Pathways
2 = continue pending successful audition
1 = has not met expectations and appears to not be interested.  Student will be dropped from the program unless they make exceptional progress before the audition.

Submit:  Please send the electronic copy to the Pathways Coordinator, Jan Angus.  If you select the hard copy method, please submit the form to me (either in the envelope on my studio door A206, Box 86 at info window or mailed to ECMS) before you send them home.  I’ll make a copy and return to you to give them.

PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS

All students in Pathways must fulfill the performance requirements listed below.  The only exceptions are students who are not in private lessons, i.e., whose Pathways participation is only in either ECC or YCS.  Those students must participate in all choral concerts for their ensemble and in RCSD Citywide.

You, the ECMS teacher, are responsible for making sure students take an ECMS exam or jury and receive a curricular grade, and perform on at least one ECMS recital.  However, students enrolled in the diploma track must perform on 2 recitals per year.

RCSD teachers register students for both solo festival and Citywide.

Please note that SOTA students must participate in both MCSMA and NYSSMA.

Each student has received their own checklist, as follows:
