This course is geared toward the young singer who wants to become a more embodied, attentive, and active performer. Students will gain a deeper understanding and awareness of their bodies as instruments as well as their sources of creativity for character and performance. We will include a variety of psycho-physical acting techniques to:

  • Explore the limitations and possibilities of the body
  • Become a more collaborative and responsive ensemble member
  • Analyze a text to develop characters for performance

Methodologies include, but are not limited to: the Stanislavski System, Viewpoints and Composition, and yoga. Weekly classes include activities and performance projects. Each semester culminates with a student-devised open class “cabaret” featuring songs from each student’s personal repertoire.
