Joanna Bassett

Joanna Bassett is an assistant dean at the Hochstein School, flutist, and teacher in Rochester, New York.

Her orchestral career has included positions as principal piccolo in the Hong Kong Philharmonic and 2nd flute/piccolo in the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra. She has performed with the Skaneateles Festival, the Tanglewood Festival Orchestra, Society for Chamber Music in Rochester, and the Civic Orchestra of Chicago. 

Ms. Bassett was the founding president of the Rochester Flute Association from 1995-2003 and has filled various volunteer roles in the RFA and the National Flute Association. In 2015, she was program chair for the NFA convention in Washington, D.C., and has served as NFA board president and interim executive director. She has served on the boards of the Canandaigua Lake Music Festival and the Rochester Philharmonic, as well as on the RPO Musicians’ Committee and RPO Volunteer Enrichment Committee.

Joanna began playing the flute in 4th grade in Ann Arbor, MI, where she studied with Glennis Metz Stout. She is a graduate of Northwestern University where she was a student of Walfrid Kujala, and the Eastman School of Music, where she studied with Bonita Boyd and Leone Buyse. She has been inspired by many other teachers, students, and treasured colleagues.
