Landon Chang
Originally from Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, Landon Chang is an award-winning saxophonist and educator currently based in Rochester, New York. He is pursuing a Master’s degree in Saxophone Performance and Literature with an Arts Leadership Certificate at the Eastman School of Music where he studies with Chien-Kwan Lin. Holding membership with various ensembles such as the Eastman Wind Ensemble and the North Texas Wind Symphony, Chang has performed under the baton of Mark Davis Scatterday, Eugene Corporon, Dennis Fisher, Nicholas Williams, and Daniel Cook. In addition, he is an active member and arranger for the internationally recognized Eastman Saxophone Project (ESP).
At the age of 18, Chang made his solo debut with the Spokane Symphony, and was recently featured with the U.S. Army Band’s “Pershing’s Own.” He has garnered a number of performance awards including prizes in the Yamaha Young Performing Artist Competition, Vandoren Emerging Artist Competition, U.S. Army Band’s Collegiate Solo Competition, MTNA Young Artist Competition, North American Saxophone Alliance Collegiate Solo Competition, Musicfest Northwest Young Artist Woodwind Competition and the Musicfest Northwest Sonata Competition. In Fall 2023, he will be competing at the Adolphe Sax International Competition in Dinant, Belgium.
Chang earned undergraduate degrees in music education and saxophone performance, summa cum laude, from the University of North Texas. He is a recipient of TMEA’s Collegiate Music Educator Award and the North Texas College of Music Presser Undergraduate Scholar Award, considered the university’s most prestigious undergraduate music award. Currently, Chang is a teaching assistant for the Music, Teaching, and Learning Department at Eastman, instructs at the Eastman Community Music School, and is Adjunct Professor of Saxophone at Roberts Wesleyan University. His primary teachers include Sam Schlaich, Vanessa Sielert, Eric Nestler, and Chien-Kwan Lin.
