Erica Porter Smith

Erica Porter Smith, M.S., MT-BC was raised in Utica, New York where she studied piano, voice, and flute under the tutelage of many incredible teachers. Whether it’s in an orchestra, band, choir, jazz band, or musical, Erica has always enjoyed creating music most with a community of other people. She obtained her Bachelor of Music in Music Therapy in 2011 and her Master of Science in Creative Arts Therapy in 2017 from Nazareth College (University). Following a hospice music therapy internship in Tallahassee, Florida, Erica returned to Rochester and began her career as a Board-Certified Music Therapist at St. Ann’s Community. With the incredible support of the Life Enrichment Department and St. Ann’s Administration, Erica spent over 10 years building a successful music therapy program with fellow colleagues. Directing resident vocal and bell choirs led to Erica’s passion for the creation of choirs specifically for individuals living with Alzheimer’s and dementia-related diagnoses. Creating music as a community fosters joy, meaning, purpose, connectedness, and a sense of security that should extend through all seasons of life. Erica is thrilled to be the Director for the inaugural ENCORE Chorus!
