Matthew Robey

A native of Baltimore, Maryland Matthew Robey arrived in Rochester by way of Kalamazoo to study at The Eastman School of Music where he earned his doctorate in Accompanying & Chamber Music under the tutelage of Jean Barr.  During his studies he received the Barbara Koeng Award for distinction in vocal coaching, he was a two time prize winner in the Jesse Kneisel Lieder Competition, and a two time recipient of the Eastman Excellence in Accompanying Award.  More recently Dr. Robey has performed as a guest artist on tour at universities in Oklahoma and Texas as well as at the George H.W. Bush Presidential Library and has served on the faculties of Kalamazoo College, The Rocky Ridge Music Center, and Western Michigan University’s SEMINAR.  He currently teaches at both The Eastman Community Music School and at Monroe Community College where his courses include class piano, music theory, music history, and world music in addition to being an active music theatre director.
