Policies

  1. The Eastman Audio Archive is the repository for all Eastman School performances (both faculty and student) dating back to 1933. (The T&MP website lists the audio recordings for the current academic year only.)
  2. Requests for Sibley Music Library listening CDs will be processed only during the winter break and summer months. We cannot accommodate rush requests so plan appropriately to meet any deadline you may have.
  3. Recordings are not available for sale to the general public. Any individual requesting a copy of a performance in which he/she was not a performer must contact David Peter Coppen (585-274-1335) to make his/her request. David must first obtain written permission from the recorded concert’s performers before we may provide you with a CD copy.
  4. Recordings may not be used for broadcast or commercial purposes without the express written consent of the Eastman School of Music. Duplicate copies of recordings may not be created.
  5. To be eligible to purchase an audio recording, an individual must have participated in the performance as one of the following:
    • Conductor
    • Accompanist
    • Soloist
    • Instrument Ensemble Performer
    • Voice Ensemble Performer

Please note: You are not guaranteed a CD of the entire concert. You may only be entitled to a single selection, depending upon your participation in the concert.

  6. All CD requests will generate an invoice that must be paid before the order is processed.
  7. Most concerts in the Archive were recorded before we began to use our current digital format. These recordings must first be transferred to a digital format before we can create the master CDs used for duplication. Many of these recordings are now stored off-site and must be brought back on-site in order to be transferred. Some digitally recorded concerts have no Master CD, so we must first create a Master CD before duplicating those as well. Because such requests will take more time to fulfill, they will only be processed during the summer months (June, July and August).
  8. Pricing varies depending on the number of recordings and the quantity of media to be transferred.

Pricing for orders whose master CD’s already exist:

    • Degree Recital (single copy) – $10
    • Degree Recital (multiple copy) – $8 per CD
    • Concert (single copy) – $12
    • Concert (multiple copy) – $10 per CD

Pricing for older archived performances and for performances with no master CD will vary(see note 7, above).

Procedure

  1. Please visit the University of Rochester Library Catalog system (Voyager) to find recordings from previous years back to 1988. You will need the call number of the recording in order to make your request. If you want a recording of a performance from the current year, you can find the call number on the T&MP website here.
  2. Inquiries concerning recordings prior to 1988 should be directed to David Peter Coppen, Special Collections Librarian and Archivist. You can contact him through email at dcoppen@esm.rochester.edu or by phone at (585) 274-1335.
  3. Student Degree Recitals performed between July 2000 and May 2002 cannot be duplicated (Sibley Music Library call numbers ECD 0001 through ECD 0364). Our Master CDs are flawed and the original recordings no longer exist so we cannot create new Master CDs.
  4. To request a recording made since 1988, please complete the online form here. As we already have Master CDs available for concerts dated September 2005 or later, orders for these concerts are usually filled within two weeks. Other orders may take longer depending on the concert.
