LATEST NEWS
September 23, 2011 – Student @u Gmail System Unable to Sign Out
Google made an update to Gmail a few weeks ago that prevents the “Sign out” button in the upper right-hand corner of Gmail from working properly. If you click on “Sign out” and then go back to http://mail.u.rochester.edu, you will find that you get redirected directly to your mail without entering your login credentials. A workaround is available that will properly sign out of Gmail. From the main Gmail site, click on Sites, click on your @u email address in the upper right-hand corner and select “Sign out”.

June 15, 2011 – ESM Public Computer Login Changes
The University of Rochester has begun requiring login credentials to use public computers within the University of Rochester and the Eastman School of Music. The new logon requirements are part of an effort to further protect information and will help preserve availability of computers for the University community. This new process began in the Sibley Music Library Listening Room today with all public computers at ESM being transitioned over the next few weeks.
In order to logon, you must have completed the myIdentity activation process. The myIdentity website allows you to manage the passwords for your University computer accounts. To activate the myIdentity service, go to https://myIdentity.rochester.edu and enter your NetID and password. After signing in, follow the steps to create a strong password and two security questions and answers. Passwords require:
- at least 8 characters with a minimum of 4 unique characters
- at least 3 types of the following types of characters: lowercase letter, uppercase letter, number, punctuation
- the following character cannot be used: @
- the password cannot contain your name or username
The public will still be able to use public computers; however, access to resources and Web sites will be significantly limited. Those who wish to can apply for a visitor ID by filling out an online application at https://networkregistration.rochester.edu/RequestVisitorNetID.aspx and bringing a photo ID to the circulation/reference/reserve desks in Sibley Music Library, Eastman Computing Services, or the Eastman Media Lab. The visitor pass will be valid for 72 hours.
University IT & Eastman Computing Services reminds users that they should always log off from public computers when they have finished using them.

Eastman Computing Services is pleased to inform you that Microsoft Office for Mac 2011 is ready for installation on Eastman-owned Mac OS X 10.6 computers. Written tutorials for Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel (with video tutorials to be posted in the coming weeks) are available on our website at the following link – http://www.esm.rochester.edu/esmtmp/ecs/tutorials/
Microsoft Entourage will temporarily remain on your computer so that you can continue to access your Eastman email. Please note that Outlook cannot be used at the current time to access Eastman email due to a compatibility issue with the current University email server. The University currently has a project underway to upgrade the email server. Eastman Computing Services will inform the Eastman Community when the upgrade becomes available and Outlook can be used to access Eastman email.
The installation takes 30-45 minutes to complete. We ask that you please contact Computing Services @ x41160 or ecshelp@esm.rochester.edu to schedule an installation time.
