Blackboard Learn Spring 2016 Course Migration: (July 8th – July 13, 2016)

July 6, 2016

For thousands of years, herds of buffalo would migrate across the North-American continent seasonally. While a great site to behold, it would be unwise to enter among the horned throng during their sojourn. Present day Rochester, NY is not privy to such a display. However, we at Eastman are in the midst of another great migration: The movement of many files from one version of Blackboard to another. It too, while not a spectacle, does require caution for a successful exodus.

On July  8th, 2016,  thanks to the hard work of the Blackboard team within Univ. IT, Eastman’s Spring 2016 Courses will be migrated from the old version of Blackboard (hosted on my.rochester.edu), to the newer Blackboard Learn environment (learn.rochester.edu). The process will take many days and will be completed by Wednesday July 13th, 2016.

When observing a physical migration of hundreds of animals weighing over a ton, it would be unwise to get too close.  Similarly, to ensure a successful and data safe transition, please ensure that you remain out of your spring 2016 courses this Friday at 3 PM (July 8) until next Wednesday (July 13).

Unfortunately, some courses are too large to migrate at this time. If that is your course, you will be contacted, directly, to ensure the best “exit strategy”.

Will the great migration be successful? Though not as exciting, nor thunderous as herds of strutting Bison, if we all remember that migrations, for most of us, are best watched, and not participated within, I have no doubt.
