Gateways Music Festival | Shana Tucker: ChamberSoul
About This Event
Cellist, vocalist, songwriter, and composer Shana Tucker has spent more than two decades creating music that brings people together. Through ChamberSoul—her signature blend of classical, jazz, soul, folk, and acoustic pop—Tucker pairs exceptional musicianship with heartfelt storytelling, and a gift for making every audience feel part of the experience. At Gateways Music Festival, she places the expanding possibilities of the cello center stage while carrying its classical traditions forward.
With cello and voice at the heart of the performance, Tucker moves from intimate melodies to infectious grooves through original songs, jazz standards, and imaginative interpretations of music made famous by Roberta Flack, Stevie Wonder, Tracy Chapman, Cyndi Lauper, and others. It is music audiences may recognize, transformed through Tucker’s distinctive sound and the stories she shares along the way.
Praised by JazzTimes, Tucker has performed at the Kennedy Center, REDCAT in Los Angeles, and Wits Theatre in Johannesburg, and spent five years as cellist and vocalist with KÀ by Cirque du Soleil. Her albums SHiNE and Hiding in the Light showcase her original songwriting and imaginative reinvention of beloved music. Her performance and recording credits include luminaries such as Me’Shell Ndegeocello, Nnenna Freelon, Norah Jones, Sweet Honey in the Rock, The Foreign Exchange, and the Blind Boys of Alabama.
Join Gateways for a Saturday night filled with virtuosity, warmth, story, and soul as Tucker transforms the familiar, shares something entirely her own, and reveals just how much possibility one cello can hold.
