Justin McCulloch

Justin McCulloch is currently pursuing a Doctorate in Double Bass at the Eastman School of Music in the studio of Professor James VanDemark. Mr. McCulloch has worked as a professional Double Bassist since 2008 with the Sarasota Orchestra. He was also a regular addition with the Florida Orchestra, the Sarasota Opera, the Jacksonville Symphony, the Orlando Philharmonic and various other groups and ensembles throughout Florida. Mr. McCulloch has most recently worked as an extra with the Buffalo Philharmonic and Rochester Philharmonic Orchestras.

Mr. McCulloch has worked with variety of Youth Orchestras including the Flagler Youth Orchestra, the Central Florida Youth Orchestra and the Young Artists Orchestra.  He has also been an adjunct faculty of Daytona State College and Bethune Cookman College, and is currently teaching bass methods courses with the Music Education department at the Eastman School of Music and private lessons with the Eastman Community Music School.

In the fall of 2017 Mr. McCulloch won a Bottesini Concerto competition at Eastman giving him the opportunity to perform as a soloist with the Eastman School Symphony Orchestra on the beautiful Kodak Hall Stage.. He considers that experience as one of the most enjoyable and fulfilling musical experiences of his life. 

Mr. McCulloch had previously received his Masters in Music Performance (2004) from Duquesne University where he studied with Professor Jeff Turner and his Bachelor’s in Music Performance (2002) at Eastman School of Music with Professor James VanDemark.. He is also a recipient of the Cathlene Filene Shouse Arts Leadership Certificate and attendee of the National Orchestral Institute (2002).

Mr. McCulloch  moved up to Rochester from Sarasota Florida with his wife and two kids to complete his Doctorate at Eastman. Mr. McCulloch enjoys spending time with his kids by going fishing, singing karaoke, watching movies and wrestling. He also loves dancing salsa, merengue and learning flamenco with his Latina wife. While in Florida Mr. McCulloch also discovered the wonders of youtube in learning how to rehab and sell properties. Mr. McCulloch and his family look forward to developing new traditions and friendships here in Rochester NY.
