Kelly Stevenson has been active in Rochester string instrument circles for over 20 years. She is currently the String Director and Modern Band/Guitar teacher at the Harley School, where she teaches 5th through 12th grade ensembles and private lessons to students of all ages.
Kelly started out as a young Suzuki kid and studied violin with Anastasia Jemplis at ECMS in middle and high school. During her college years, she switched gears to becoming a multi-instrumentalist on *everything strings.* When her students ask what her favorite instrument is, Kelly’s answer is: “whatever one I’m holding!” She plays the violin, viola, cello, bass, guitar, banjo, mandolin, ukulele, and various percussion regularly, and is the proud washboard player of the local jug band Ruckus Juice Jug Stompers. Her favorite gigs include playing violin for musicals, bluegrass fiddle and acoustic guitar in local jams, and electric guitar originals in local restaurants.
Kelly loves conducting large and small orchestras, and arranging all types of music for eclectic ensembles. Although she mainly writes original music for guitar and voice, her latest project was composing original music to the play ELECTRA by Sophocles using electronic samples and loops.
