Jacob Hunkins (he/him) is pursuing a Masters of Trumpet Literature and Performance and is a member of the Art Leadership Certificate program at the Eastman School of Music. As a performer, educator, and scholar, Jacob is committed to increasing support for underrepresented groups in both educational and professional musical settings and creating an equitable musical environment in which everyone has a chance to express themselves. Jacob plans on pursuing a career in collegiate education while also maintaining a strong presence in community musical organizations focused on developing musicianship in youth from underrepresented groups.
As a trumpet player, Jacob has had numerous experiences as an educator and performer. He has taught students from elementary to undergraduate levels and presented a masterclass to the trumpet studio at Gettysburg College in 2023. He has served as principal trumpet in a number of ensembles ranging in many styles and maintains a freelance career. Jacob was also named the 15th annual Gettysburg College Concerto Competition winner and performed as a featured soloist with the Gettysburg College Orchestra. Jacob has also achieved recognition as a musical scholar, presenting independent research to the Allegheny Chapter of the American Musicological Society.
Jacob graduated with a BA in Music and History with a minor with distinction in German Studies from Gettysburg College. While at Gettysburg, he was inducted into the Phi Beta Kappa, Delta Phi Alpha, and Phi Alpha Theta honors societies and received departmental honors in both music and history.
