Hughes, Miranda

Miranda Hughes is a percussionist, educator, and arranger whose work centers on contemporary performance, chamber music, and collaboration. Based in Rochester, New York, she is currently pursuing the Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Percussion Performance and Literature at the Eastman School of Music, where she studies with Michael Burritt, Chip Ross, and Kyle Peters. Her performance experience includes the Tallahassee Symphony Orchestra, Panama City Symphony Orchestra, Sinfonia Gulf Coast, Roanoke Symphony Orchestra, and Opera Roanoke.

Miranda has performed throughout the United States and Europe as both a soloist and ensemble member. In 2023, she performed with the Florida State University Percussion Ensemble at the Percussive Arts Society International Convention (PASIC) as winners of the International Percussion Ensemble Competition (IPEC). She has also performed throughout Europe with the World Percussion Group and has appeared with orchestral and chamber ensembles throughout the United States.

As an educator, Miranda has taught percussion students ranging from beginners to graduate-level musicians. She previously served as a Graduate Teaching Assistant at Florida State University from 2023–2025, where she taught applied percussion lessons and percussion methods and co-directed the FSU Percussion Ensemble. She has also maintained private studios in Florida and Virginia and has taught marching percussion, including front ensemble and drumline, since 2019.

Miranda holds a Master of Music in Percussion Performance and a Master of Arts in Music from Florida State University, where she studied percussion with Dr. John Parks IV, and a Bachelor of Arts in Music Performance from Virginia Tech, where she studied with Dr. Annie Stevens. Her graduate studies have included a focus on sports psychology, music entrepreneurship, and arts administration.
