Saarie, Gwendoline

Gwendoline Saarie is an undergraduate student of the carillon at the University of Rochester. Hailing from Syracuse, New York, she majors in Physics and Astronomy and is set to graduate in 2027. Gwen has a significant background in piano and percussion, particularly mallet percussion. She also has great experience working as the accompanist for vocal groups and individual soloists. In 2023, she auditioned to play the carillon under instructor Doris Aman, and she made quick progress. Soon after, Aman retired and turned the keys over to current University Carillonist Carson Landry, of whom Gwen continues to take lessons from.

In 2024, she began volunteer work with the Hopeman Carillon library, in order to organize and digitize the library of over 4,000 pieces for carillon owned by the University. Since then, the job turned into a paid position and she continues to work to make the library accessible for all carillon students. In the same year, Gwen founded the University of Rochester Carillon Guild and became its President. The goal of the Guild was, and is, to promote student leadership and camaraderie among all carillon students. Gwen is extremely excited to use her skills to teach people the carillon and spread awareness about the instrument.
