A San Francisco Bay Area native, Audrey Chandler is passionate (read: nerdy) about all things
music theory. She discovered a love of theory and musicianship as a child in the San Francisco
Girls Chorus, where she later returned as a Theory Instructor and Tutor on faculty. Audrey spent
four years honing her skills in the theory classroom at SFGC with singers ages 4-16 and is
thrilled to continue her work with young musicians as a Teacher of Theory in Motion at the
Eastman Community Music School.
Audrey graduated from the music department at the University of California, Berkeley with
highest honors in May 2024. She is currently working on her M.A. in Music Theory at the
Eastman School of Music, where she also serves as a T.A. in the undergraduate theory
curriculum. Audrey holds a broad interest in transcultural music theory, which informs both her
pedagogical philosophy and her personal research. The latter has most recently focused on the
cognitive schema and theoretical representation of irregular meter in Hungarian folk song. In her teaching, Audrey strives to embody the philosophy of the Theory in Motion curriculum, which integrates theoretical concepts with real musical practice through creative exercise, discovery, and body movement. Above all, Audrey is motivated by a fundamental commitment to the joys of both teaching and learning, and looks forward to growing alongside her students at ECMS.
