How to sing in Korean? – Korean diction and repertoire
General Information

DescriptionAs Korean music gains global prominence— through K-pop, drama, classical competition winners—performers worldwide are increasingly engaging with Korean-language repertoire. However, formal training in Korean diction—pronunciation, syllable structure, and phonetic consistency—remains limited This course fills a pedagogical gap by providing a structured, linguistically grounded approach to Korean diction.
This comprehensive course is designed for anyone who is interested in singing Korean vocal music. The primary objective of this course is to provide practical Korean diction techniques to non-native speakers, enabling them to sing solo, in small groups, or in choral settings.
The course will commence with a concise overview of the Korean writing system, Hangeul. Subsequently, participants will learn how to read and sing in Korean using the Korean International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA). Additionally, five choral pieces will be provided, each accompanied by its IPA, transliteration, and translation.
