Congratulations to Eastman School of Music students Nathanael Kumar and Logan Wadley ’23E, ’25E (MM) for competing earlier this month (August) in the Leonard Falcone International Euphonium and Tuba Festival in Twin Lake Michigan, the country’s only annual solo competition for tuba and euphonium. Both advanced to the semifinal round after a preliminary adjudication of recorded submissions from students around the world. 10 artist competitors were selected on tuba and another 10 on euphonium. Following a live semifinal competition, three artists on each instrument were named finalists with Nathanael winning the Gold Medal in the Euphonium Artist division and the Leonard Falcone Tribute award, taking home a cash prize of $2800. In 2024, Logan won the Silver Medal in the Tuba Artist division and the Philip and Carolyn Sinder award, receiving a cash prize of $1400. Nathanael is a fourth-year undergraduate pursuing a dual degree at the University of Rochester in Euphonium Performance and Composition from Eastman and Computer Science from the College of Arts and Sciences, while Logan will be returning to Eastman this fall as a DMA candidate. Nathanael and Logan are from the studio of Professor Justin Benavidez.
