The Eastman Student Teacher Teacher Performance Assessment (TPA) comprises two evaluations per student teaching placement: (a) an evaluation based on a formal observation by the Eastman supervisor and (b) completion of a summative evaluation by the cooperating teacher. The Eastman instructor of record will review both evaluations when assigning the final grade for the student teaching placement.
In June 2023, the Department of Music Teaching and Learning’s Summative Evaluation was revised to comply with New York State’s required addition of a TPA into teaching candidates’ student teaching experience. The revised rubric (used by both the cooperating teacher and university supervisor), is grounded in Eastman’s Music Education conceptual framework, and includes content from New York State Teaching Standards, the New York State Culturally Responsive-Sustaining Education Framework, and New York State Learning Standards for the Arts.
