BIOGRAPHY
Lindsay Warren Baker (she/her) is a consent-forward, multi-hyphenate theatre artist dedicated to facilitating brave, collaborative spaces in both the classroom and the rehearsal studio. Her work spans stage direction, theatrical intimacy direction, writing, and teaching with experience in a wide range of genres including plays, musical theatre, opera, and devised physical theatre. She is committed to creative, embodied, active, person-centered collaborative theatre-making that promotes artistic growth.
Lindsay first began working with the Eastman Voice, Opera & Vocal Coaching Department in 2001 as a member of Eastman Opera Theatre’s stage management team. Her role grew from Production Stage Manager to Staff Instructor, and in 2016 she joined the faculty as an Instructor of Opera and acting coach. Beyond instructional roles, Lindsay has directed fully staged productions of Into the Woods, Missy Mazzoli’s Proving Up, Kate Soper’s Here Be Sirens (Suite), Our Voices: The Journey to Here – an original song cycle featuring the songs of Erollyn Wallen, and numerous scene programs for Eastman Opera Theatre. Today, Lindsay is also EOT’s resident Intimacy Director, offering company support and choreographing theatrical intimacy for productions such as Paola Prestini’s Silent Light, Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas, Nkeiru Okoye’s We’ve Got Our Eye on You, and Daniel Catán’s Florencia en el amazonas. In addition to the VOVC Department, Lindsay is an Instructor of Arts Leadership for the Institute for Music Leadership where she leads the “Consent-Forward Music Making” seminar, and teaches acting lessons and workshops for voice students at the Eastman Community Music School.
A Rochester, NY local, Lindsay has a significant and growing presence in the theatre community, collaborating with numerous companies. Lindsay is the co-author of Austen’s Pride: A New Musical of Pride and Prejudice which was the winner of New York Musical Theatre Festival’s Stage Entertainment Award for Most Promising Musical and has had productions at the 5th Avenue Theatre (Seattle, WA), ACT Connecticut (Ridgefield, CT), and La Mirada Theatre for the Performing Arts (La Mirada, CA), among others. It was performed in concert at Carnegie Hall’s Stern Auditorium in June 2023 and is launching a multi-state pre-Broadway Tour at STAGES St. Louis in July 2025. www.austensprideamusical.com
She received an MA in Liberal Studies with an emphasis in performing arts and cultural studies from Empire State University and a BA in Theater and Music Education from St. Olaf College. Additional training and professional development programs include: O’Neill National Theater Institute (NTI, NTI Moscow, NTI Advanced Directing), SITI Company (Viewpoints & Suzuki Method), both the Dagara Music Center and Dagbe Cultural Institute & Arts Center in Ghana, West Africa, and Intimacy Directors & Coordinators. Lindsay also has an Intermediate Diploma from Theatrical Intimacy Education and is a TIE Educator Advocate.
