Nicholas Saxton, tenor, is a doctoral candidate in Voice Performance and Literature at the Eastman School of Music. No stranger to Rochester, Nick also earned a Master of Music in Voice Performance and Literature from the Eastman School of Music. He graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Music from Heidelberg University. During his tenure at Heidelberg, he sharpened his leadership skills by serving as president of both the Heidelberg Concert Choir and the Tau Mu Sigma music honor society. He has served on the teaching faculty of Noteworthy-Experiences Music Studios in Sudbury, MA and the Heidelberg University Community Music School.
Recent operatic roles include international debuts as Marco and Il Notaro in Gianni Schicchi with the Villa Nigra Opera Festival in Italy. A proponent of contemporary opera, he portrayed The Reader in Tibetan Book of the Dead by Ricky Ian Gordan with Eastman Opera Theater. A passionate advocate of art song, he has crafted and performed many innovative recitals, and most recently won 2nd prize in the NATS Upstate Advanced Classical Division. He is frequently seen as a concert soloist, feeling most comfortable as a singer of Bach’s canatas. During his time at Eastman he has been a member of the prestigious Voices Chamber Choir and the Eastman Chorale. He has held positions as Tenor Choral Scholar at All Saints Parish in Brookline, MA and cantor with St. Thomas More Catholic Church in Rochester, NY.
Nicholas’ teaching emphasizes vocal health, flexibility, and working with students toward the fulfillment of long-term goals. He strives to meet every student where they are on their unique vocal journey, and adapts his teaching methods to best suit their needs while always keeping healthy technique as the focal point. His students have won top honors at state music contests, pursued music education in undergraduate institutions, and have been cast numerous times in primary and secondary school musical productions as well as in community theater throughout the Midwest.
