2024 Rochester Interview Date for DMA and PhD Applicants: Friday January 26
2024 Rochester Interview Dates for BM, MA, and MM Applications: Friday January 26, and Fridays February 2, 9, 16, 23
2024 Remote Interview Option: Applicants who would like to interview and complete their skills assessment virtually will be scheduled for a zoom interview and skills assessment with the music education faculty on one of the dates listed above.
PRE-SCREENING, AUDITION, AND INTERVIEW REQUIREMENTS
Undergraduate
Applicants for Music Education should follow the audition instructions and repertoire guidelines for their specific instrument given in this section for all undergraduate students. (Pianists: Note that there is a specific repertory listing for music education majors.)
Music Education applicants can interview in-person during on-campus audition days or remotely by the music education faculty.
A skills assessment will be administered to all undergraduate applicants to the major in Music Education. It consists of sight-reading rhythm and tonal patterns, sight-singing melodies, improvising on the major instrument/voice, and harmonizing a melody at the keyboard. Graduate
MA and MM Applicants:
- Music Education applicants can interview in-person during on-campus audition days or remotely.
- MM and MA applicants will also complete musical skills assessment consisting of sight-reading rhythm and tonal patterns, sight-singing melodies, improvising on the major instrument/voice, harmonizing a melody at the keyboard, and performing accompaniments at the keyboard. PhD and DMA interviews: Music education faculty members will conduct a preliminary review of all submitted application materials in early December. Finalists will be invited to interview on campus or remotely on January 26th, 2024.
MM and DMA audition requirements: Applicants should follow the audition instructions and repertoire guidelines for their specific instrument for all graduate students. (Pianists: Note that there is a specific repertoire listing for music education majors.)
