What We Do
The Eastman Writing Center (EWC) offers individual consultations and workshops to support studentsâ development in developing writing and public speaking skills throughout their time at Eastman.
We serve all Eastman students at the undergraduate and graduate level and work closely with interested faculty who are eager to help students develop strategies for a wide range of tasks that professional musicians commonly encounter. We work with students on all kinds of writing, including academic papers, public speaking and lecture-recitals, graduate school applications, website content, résumés and cover letters, grant applications, biographies, proposals, and personal statements.
Instructors
All our instructors are trained in teaching writing and communication and are advanced graduate students. If you are a graduate student and interested in becoming a writing tutor, please reach out to the Director.

Generative A.I. and the Eastman Writing Center
The Eastman Writing Center adheres to the policy on Generative A.I. that has been outlined by the Office of the Provost at the University of Rochester.  We are committed to helping students navigate the benefits and challenges of these tools in accordance with those guidelines, including:
- How to use generative AI to support learning rather than replace it
- How to critically evaluate AI-generated content
- How to make informed decisions that protect privacy and security
- How to discuss AI use with instructors to ensure alignment with course policies
All use of generative AI must follow the Universityâs Academic Honesty Policy for Eastman.
