DATES AND AUDITION OPTIONS
2026 Rochester Audition Dates: Friday, February 6th.
2026 Remote Audition Option: Applicants who would like to audition virtually should upload their pre-screening requirements within their application by December 1st. If approved, applicants will perform their final audition over Zoom on Friday, February 6th.
PRE-SCREENING AND AUDITION REQUIREMENTS
Undergraduate
Pre-Screening Requirements: By December 1st, all BM bassoon applicants must upload a pre-screening video recording within their application. Please include the following in your video:
- One Milde, Étude Op. 24
- A short solo piece or movement of the applicants’ choice played with or without accompaniment.
Final Audition Requirements: Applicants who are selected to advance to the final audition round can either audition on-campus or remotely via Zoom.
- Two contrasting movements from a concerto of the applicants’ choice played without accompaniment.
- One Milde Étude from Op. 24
- A slow, melodic étude or solo piece of the applicants’ choice
- Orchestral excerpts:
- Ravel: Bolero rehearsal 2 to 3
- Tchaikovsky: Symphony no. 4: mvt. II, m. 274 to end
- All major and minor scales
- Sight-reading
Graduate

- Mozart: Overture to the Marriage of Figaro m.101-m.171
- Ravel: Bolero rehearsal 2 to 3
- Tchaikovsky: Symphony No. 4: mvt. II, m. 274 to end
- Sight-reading
DMA Final Audition Requirements: Applicants who are selected to advance to the final audition round can either audition on-campus, or remotely via Zoom.
- A complete concerto of the applicants’ choice performed from memory without accompaniment
- One Milde Étude from Op. 24
- A slow, melodic étude or solo piece of the applicants’ choice
- One short piece or portion of a piece of the applicants’ choice written since 1980.
- Orchestral excerpts performed from memory:
- Mozart: Overture to the Marriage of Figaro m.101-m.171
- Ravel: Bolero rehearsal 2 to 3
- Tchaikovsky: Symphony No. 4 mvt. II, m. 274 to end
- Stravinsky: Le Sacre du Printemps opening to #4
- Beethoven: Symphony #4 mvt. IV solo
