STUDENT PROFILE
Current first-year M.A. student in Musicology, Delaney Sutherland holds a B.M. in Horn Performance and additional certificates in Business Ethics and Legal Studies from the University of Denver. Upon graduation, they received the senior Outstanding Academic Achievement award from the Lamont School of Music. A dedicated performer, Delaney has performed in both ensembles at the Lamont School of Music, Parker Symphony Orchestra, and played alongside the Colorado Symphony Orchestra. At the Eastman School of Music, Delaney hopes to delve into ludomusicological research, exploring the connection between environmental sound design and musical semiotics. This builds off their previous research interests, having presented their paper “‘Will The Circle Be Unbroken?’: Gospel Music, Race, and the Propaganda of American Exceptionalism in Bioshock Infinite” at a university colloquium, for which they were awarded.
In addition to scholarship and performance, Delaney has composed several works for horn and piano, their Three Miniatures for Horn and Piano having premiered in 2023. Outside of music, Delaney is an avid artist, cook, and outdoors-person.
