In additional to Eastman’s traditional concert venues, a number of other spaces exist for performance, recording, and rehearsal. The most popular of these spaces is Room 120. Located in the main building, Room 120 is frequently used by students to present jazz, multimedia, and experimental performances. Additionally, Room 120 is used as both a rehearsal space and a recording studio. Other ensemble rehearsal rooms are also located throughout the School. These rooms are sound- and vibration-isolated and many are connected to the School’s recording studios.
Eastman students frequently take advantage of local venues to present their music to the public. It is not uncommon for students to arrange solo recitals at nearby religious buildings (such as Christ Church and First Universalist Church) or to perform in jazz combos at downtown coffee shops (such as Java’s and Spot Coffee). These off-campus locations allow students the valuable opportunity to hone their performances skills while reaching a greater audience.
