2026 Rochester Audition Dates: Fridays, February 6th, February 20th, and February 27th.
2026 Remote Audition Option: Applicants who would like to audition virtually should upload their pre-screening requirements within their application by December 1st. If approved, finalists will perform their final audition over Zoom on one of the three above dates.Â
PRE-SCREENING AND AUDITION REQUIREMENTS

Undergraduate
BM Pre-screening Requirements:Â All BM Tuba applicants must upload a pre-screening video containing the following material within their application by December 1st:
- Bordogni, 43 Bel Canto Etudes for Tuba – Etude No. 18
- Blazhevich, 70 Studies for Tuba, Volume 1 – Etude No. 32
- A three-minute excerpt from any solo work (piano optional)
BM Final Audition Requirements:
- One complete lyrical etude from Bordogni, 43 Bel Canto Etudes for Tuba
- One complete technical etude from Blazhevich, 70 Studies for Tuba, Volume 1
- One solo work from the following list (or of similar difficulty). Applicants are welcome to present repertoire by composers who have been traditionally underrepresented by virtue of their gender, race, ethnicity, or cultural heritage.
- Gregson, Concerto for Tuba
- Hindemith, Sonata for Tuba and Piano
- Lebedev, Concerto in One Movement
- Lebedev, Concert Allegro
- Vaughan Williams, Concerto for Tuba
- Two standard band or orchestral excerpts from the following list:
- Berlioz, Hungarian March
- Hindemith, Symphony in B flat
- Grainger, Rufford Park Poachers from Lincolnshire Posy
- Prokofiev, Symphony No. 5
- Vaughan Williams, Toccata Marziale
- Wagner, Overture to Die Meistersinger
- Wagner, Ride of the Valkyries

Graduate
Please Note: There will be no openings for DMA Tuba for Fall 2026.
MM Pre-screening Requirements: All MM Tuba applicants must upload a pre-screening video containing the following material within their application by December 1st:
- Snedecor, Low Etudes for Tuba – Etude No. 4
- Kopprasch, 60 Selected Studies – Etude No. 14
- A solo work of applicant’s choice (piano accompaniment required)
- Two contrasting band or orchestral excerpts from the standard repertoire
DMA Pre-screening Requirements: All DMA Tuba applicants must upload a pre-screening video containing the following material within their application by December 1st:
- Snedecor, Low Etudes for Tuba – Etude No. 10
- Kopprasch, 60 Selected Studies – Etude No. 33
- A solo work of applicant’s choice (piano accompaniment required)
- Two contrasting band or orchestral excerpts from the standard repertoire
MM and DMA Final Audition Requirements:
- One etude from Snedecor, Low Etudes for Tuba: Etude #5 or Etude #6
- One Baroque, Classical, or Romantic transcription
- One solo work from the following list (or of similar difficulty). Applicants are welcome to present repertoire by composers who have been traditionally underrepresented by virtue of their gender, race, ethnicity, or cultural heritage.
- Broughton, Sonata for Tuba and Piano
- Daugherty, Reflections on the Mississippi
