STUDENT PROFILE
Australian pianist William Shi has garnered first prizes at numerous competitions, including the Petrof, Vivace/Yamaha, and Queensland Piano Competitions. A recipient of the Theme & Variations Foundation Award, the Newton Swift Piano Award, a 2020 American Australian Association Arts Fund Grant and a 2021 Australian Music Foundation Award, William has appeared at the Australian Festival of Chamber Music and the Australian Piano Duo Festival.
As a collaborative pianist, William has accompanied masterclasses with such distinguished artists as Glenn Dicterow, Walter Auer (Principal Flute of the Vienna Philharmonic), Martin Katz, and Renée Fleming, and has worked with the Australian Strings Association Competition, Australasian Double Reed Society National Competition, and the Underground Opera Company.
William held a teaching assistantship while attaining his Master of Music with Dr. Arkady Aronov from the Mannes School of Music. Additionally, he was a University Medalist at the University of Queensland, where he completed his Bachelor of Music (Honors) with Max Olding. At Eastman, William is the teaching assistant for Prof. Natalya Antonova with whom he is currently undertaking a DMA in Piano Performance & Literature, alongside an MM in Piano Accompanying & Chamber Music with Dr. Andrew Harley. He serves as Adjunct Faculty at Nazareth College.
