STUDENT PROFILE
Gaurav Sarangi is a junior from Frisco, Texas, pursuing a degree in Saxophone Performance, studying under Professor Chien-Kwan Lin. He has been playing the saxophone for eight years and also studied other instruments such as piano, euphonium, and percussion. He is a part of the Wind Orchestra directed by Dr. Mark Scatterday, the Eastman Saxophone Project directed by Professor Chien-Kwan Lin, and is the alto saxophonist in the Asiimov Quartet, with whom he competed in the 2024 North American Saxophone Alliance (NASA) Saxophone Quartet Competition.
In high school, Gaurav served as the principal baritone saxophone of the TMEA All-State 5A Wind Symphony, and as a four year member in the Overtone Saxophone Quartet, with whom he appeared as semifinalists in the Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition in 2020, finalists in the Houston Underground Saxophone Quartet Competition 2022, and finalists in the Coltman NCMC in 2020 and 2021. Gaurav also competed as a finalist in the Houston Underground Solo Saxophone Competition for two years and a semi finalist in the Plano Symphony Orchestra Young Artist Competition. His previous instructors include Mark Alewine and Dr. Alexander Richards of Victoria Conservatory in Canada.
