STUDENT PROFILE
Yutong Liu is a first year PhD student in music education. She holds a B.A. and a M.A. in Music Education from the Central Conservatory of Music. Since 2019, Yutong has been teaching K–5 general music in both private and public elementary schools, as well as at a public extracurricular arts institution. Her teaching experience also includes directing children’s choirs, college choirs, and elderly choirs. Her research interests include culturally responsive teaching, general music pedagogy, and students’ holistic musical development. Yutong chose Eastman “because I am deeply impressed by the strong and caring faculty in the Music Teaching and Learning Department at the Eastman School of Music. My academic interests closely align with those of the professors, and I am excited about the opportunity to learn from them.” A fun fact about Yutong: “I’m a big fan of marine animals. I love traveling and visiting aquariums around the world, as well as reading books related to ocean life.”
