STUDENT PROFILE
Jonathan Fleischman is a second year PhD student in music education. His BM is in Music Education and Viola Performance from Ithaca College, and his MA in Music Education is from Eastman. He taught elementary and middle school orchestra in Liverpool, NY, for three years, middle school orchestra and general music in Macon, GA, for one year, and high school orchestra and music theory in Ithaca, NY, for five years. Jonathan’s research interests include culturally responsive pedagogy, curriculum/learning frameworks, and assessment practices.
Jonathan chose Eastman “first for my MA because of the availability of the summers-only program, and the high caliber of musicianship and scholarship here. When I decided to pursue my PhD, I decided to build upon the relationship that I already had with the school, as well as to have another chance to work with a close-knit group of faculty experts who share similar research interests with my own pursuits.” A fun fact about Jonathan: “I hold a L1 Crossfit trainer certification!”
