DMA in Music Teaching & Learning
STUDENT PROFILE
Emily Evans is a first year DMA student in music education. She earned a B.M. in Choral Music Education from University of Kentucky and a M.M. in Vocal Pedagogy and Performance from East Carolina University. Emily has taught high school choir and AP Music Theory for five years at Warhill High School in Williamsburg, VA. She has also maintained her own private voice studio for the past three years. Her research interests include interdisciplinary research in poetic and musical studies, and vocal pedagogy curriculum in a choral and solo setting. Emily chose Eastman “because I felt this program embraced and encouraged my love of both teaching and performing. I feel valued and respected for my interest in being a well-rounded teacher and soloist, and there are numerous opportunities to explore both aspects.” A fun fact about Emily: “I love collecting and taking care of my plants; it makes me feel closer to nature and at peace in my home.”
