Sarah Chou
STUDENT PROFILE
Born and raised in Taipei, Taiwan, Sarah Chou is a first-year college student pursuing dual degrees in French horn performance at the Eastman School of Music and Business at the University of Rochester. She studies with Professor W. Peter Kurau and has received guidance from Stefan Dohr, Joachim Pöltl, Paul van Zelm, and Gail Williams.
During high school, Sarah served as Principal Horn and Vice President of the Kang Chiao International School Orchestra and was an active member of the school’s Woodwind Quintet. She participated in international music events, including performances with the Shin-Sharn Symphonic Wind Ensemble in Heidelberg, Germany, and the Summa Cum Laude 15th International Youth Music Festival in Vienna, Austria, where the orchestra performed in the Golden Hall of the Musikverein and received the Symphony Orchestra Excellence Award.
In addition to orchestral performance, Sarah founded the Horvion Youth Chamber, a horn and violin ensemble dedicated to community outreach, presenting concerts in nursing homes, churches, and fundraising events.
She is a recipient of the Distinction Awards in the Taiwan National Music Competitions for both French horn solo and woodwind quintet. She has also performed Mozart’s Horn Concerto No. 3, K.447, with the Mazer Philharmonic Youth Orchestra.
