Taiwanese-American pianist Andrew Chen recently completed his MM degree in Piano Accompanying and Chamber Music at the Eastman School of Music under the direction of Dr. Andrew Harley, and is attending the McGill-UdeM Piano-Vocal Arts Residency in Montreal, Quebec for the 2026-2027 school year.

Andrew completed his undergraduate studies in 2019 with double degrees in Music and Statistics at the University of California, Berkeley, where he studied piano with Betty Woo and violin with Dan Flanagan. Following graduation, he won second place at the MTAC Piano Solo Competition, participated in the International Keyboard Institute and Festival in New York, and, in 2021, performed Ravel’s Piano Concerto in G with the UC Berkeley Symphony Orchestra conducted by David Milnes. Andrew has gained extensive experience collaborating with instrumentalists and vocalists in festivals including the Collaborative Piano Institute, Source Song Festival, Toronto Summer Music (Art of Song), Aspen Music Festival, Eastern Music Festival, and Music On Site. Operatic performances include West Edge Opera’s American premiere of Mark Anthony Turnage’s Coraline conducted by John Kennedy, Hänsel und Gretel conducted by Stephan Gomez at Music On Site, and Marius Constant’s chamber adaptation of Debussy’s Pelléas et Melisande at the Eastman Opera Theatre, conducted by Wilson Southerland.

Andrew also enjoys composing and has written several pieces for solo piano, chamber music, and film music. His compositions, including “Fantasy” for solo piano and “Awakenings” for cello and piano, have won top prizes in the Pacific Musical Composition Competition and the MTAC Composers Today State Contest.
