From faculty and guest artist recitals to choral music reading sessions and the Eastman Young Artists International Piano Competition, the summer schedule at the Eastman School of Music is packed with performances offering something for everyone.
The schedule of some 50 events features concerts by participants in Eastman’s annual Summer Session, which includes programs in jazz, wind ensemble, choir, harp, drums, trombone, trumpet, and other instruments. World music gets two performance spotlights: the World Music Institute concert, featuring Balinese Gamelan, African drumming, and improvisation on July 18, and an annual concert by folk musician and Eastman Community Music School instructor Mitzie Collins on July 16.
The eleventh Eastman Young Artists International Piano Competition brings more than two dozen of the world’s finest young players to Rochester to compete for Eastman scholarships and additional prizes. Preliminary rounds begin on Saturday, Aug. 2; the three top prize winners will present two recitals on Saturday, Aug. 9.
