STUDENT PROFILE
Benjamin Small (he/him) is a junior at Eastman from Reading, Pennsylvania, where he majors in Classical Saxophone Performance/Music Theory, and studies under the tutelage of Professors Chien-Kwan Lin, William Marvin, Matthew Brown and Matthew Curlee. While at school, Ben performs regularly in the Eastman Saxophone Project, Wind Orchestra, Wind Ensemble, Musica Nova, and OSSIA, as well as previously performing in the Eastman Jazz Workshop and Tuba Mirum ensembles. Within the realm of music theory, he primarily focuses on contemporary/avant-garde music, as well as music from the 18th century and before.
In 2023, for his Eagle Scout project, he collected 52 unused instruments for the Reading Musical Foundation’s “Operation Replay”. This program refurbishes and provides instruments to students in Berks County who may not be able to afford their own, so that they can have the gift of music.Â
