Eastman School of Musicβs Professor of Lute Paul OβDette, Assistant Professor of Organ Nathan Laube, and Assistant Professor of Jazz Studies Dave Rivello and Eastman graduates Bob Ludwig, Maria Schneider, John Fedchock, Kristian Bezuidenhout, Martha Cluver, and Eric Dudley are among the nominees for the 58th annual Grammy Awards.Β
OβDette and Stephen Stubbes, who serve as co-artistic directors of the Boston Early Music Festival (BEMF), are the conductors on the album Steffani: Niobe, Regina Di Tebe, which was nominated for Best Opera Recording. Earlier this year, the recording won the Echo Klassik and Diapason d’Or de l’annΓ©e awards.Β
Laube is a performer on the album Paulus: Three Places of Enlightenment; Veil of Tears and Grand Concerto for Organ & Orchestra. The recording was nominated in the category of Best Classical Compendium.
Rivello is the producer on the recording Lines of Color by the Gil Evans Project, which was nominated in the category of Best Large Jazz Ensemble.Β Schneider also was nominated in that category.
Ludwig is the mastering engineer on Sound & Color by Alabama Shakes, which is up for Album of the Year. The recording also got a Grammy nod for Best Engineered Album, Non-Classical. Ludwig received his bachelorβs in music education in 1966 and was awarded a masterβs degree in trumpet in 2001.Β Β
Schneiderβs album The Thompson Fields is up for Best Large Jazz Ensemble Album. Schneider, who earned her masterβs degree at Eastman in 1985, was also nominated for Best Arrangement, Instruments and Vocals, for her arrangement of David Bowieβs βSue (Or in a Season of Crime)β, a track from the album Nothing Has Changed.Β
Bezuidenhout also received two nominations: in the Best Classical Instrumental Solo category for Mozart: Keyboard Music, Vol. 7, and in the Best Classical Solo Vocal Album category for Beethoven: An Die Ferne Geliebte; Haydn: English Songs: Mozart: Masonic Cantata. Bezuidenhout earned his bachelorβs degree in 2001 and his masterβs degree in 2004.Β Β
Fedchock is up for a Grammy for Best Arrangement, Instrumental or A Cappella, for βYou and the Night and the Music,β a track from the album Like It Is. He received his masterβs degree at Eastman in 1985.Β Β
Cluver and Dudley are members of the vocal group Roomful of Teeth, which was nominated for Best Chamber Music/Small Ensemble Performance for its recording Render. Cluver received her bachelorβs degree in 2003 and Dudley received his bachelorβs degree in 2001.Β Β
Winners of the National Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences, Inc.βs 58th Grammy Awards will be announced on Monday, Feb. 15, 2016, in the Staples Center in Los Angeles.
