As one of the winning ensembles of the Percussive Arts Society’s International Percussion Ensemble Competition, the Eastman Percussion Ensemble will perform a Showcase Concert at the Percussive Arts Society International Convention (PASIC) in Indianapolis on Saturday, Nov. 16.
In their showcase concert, the Eastman Percussion Ensemble will present a program of contemporary percussion repertoire, featuring the world premieres of Fandango 13 by Michael Burritt, Sextet by Alejandro Viñao, and Catching Shadows by Ivan Trevino. Additionally, the program will include Sextuor de Sixxens from Le Livre Des Claviers by Philippe Manoury and Third Construction by John Cage. This concert will be the first time Eastman Percussion Ensemble has performed at the PASIC Convention.
To enter the competition, the ensemble prepared and submitted a recording of three contrasting works last December. A panel of adjudicators listened to unedited recordings of all ensemble applicants without knowing their school associations to fairly evaluate all submissions. The Eastman Percussion Ensemble was one of three winning collegiate percussion ensembles, marking the first time the ensemble has received the Society’s prestigious honor.

The convention’s four-day program features more than 120 concerts, clinics, master classes, labs, workshops, panels, and presentations with some of the finest artists from all over the world. All areas of percussion are represented, including drumset, marching, keyboard, symphonic, world, recreational, education, music technology, and new music. The students involved in the Eastman Percussion Ensemble appearance will be attending two of the four days of this event.
The Eastman Percussion Ensemble is led by Michael Burritt, Eastman School of Music’s Professor of Percussion. It consists of 18 students, ranging from undergraduate upperclassmen to graduate students. Each year the ensemble presents five on-campus performances and several off-campus concerts.
