Thirteen students have been chosen to represent the Eastman School of Music in the prestigious Conservatory Project at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C., on Tuesday, Feb. 12.
The Conservatory Project is designed to present the best young musical artists in classical, jazz, musical theater, opera and more from the nation’s leading undergraduate and graduate conservatories, colleges, and universities. The Conservatory Project creates an ongoing showcase for exceptional young talent and introduces Washington audiences to young musicians destined to have important careers. The Eastman School was one of eight founding participants of the Conservatory Project when it was launched in 2004, and student musicians have represented the school every year since then.
The performers and their programs are:
* Hirono Sugimoto Borter ’13 (MM), violin, and Philip Borter ’10 (MM), cello; Kodály: Duo for Violin and Cello, Opus 7, Allegro serioso non troppo
* Adam Larison ’15 (DMA), guitar; Tárrega: Fantasia on themes from La Traviata
* Dasol Jeong ’13 (BM), violin, and Tatiana Tchekina, Assistant Professor of Accompanying, piano; Wieniawski: Variations on an Original Theme, Opus 15
* Evie Chen ’13 (BM, BA),violin; Henry Chen ’13 (BM),cello; and Tristan Savella ’13 (BM), piano; Mendelssohn: Piano Trio in C minor, Opus 66, No. 2, Allegro energico e con fuoco
* Jacqueline Cordova-Arrington ’14 (DMA), flute; Hilary Glen ’11 (MM) ’14 (DMA), cello; Kristina Finch ’08 (BM) ’13 (DMA), harp; Kyung Ah Jung ’13 (MM), violin; Stephanie Price ’14 (MM), viola; and Hee Sagong ’11 (MM) ’14 (DMA); Debussy, arr. David Noon: L’Isle Joyeuse (The Joyous Island).
The concert starts at 6 p.m. on the Kennedy Center’s Millennium Stage and is free and open to the public.
