Jazz on the Pond
WROC-TV — July 8, 2010
A local family is extending an invitation for you to come to a big jazz concert in their backyard. It’s called Jazz on the Pond. This year’s guest is 10 time Grammy winner and music icon Chaka Kahn. It’s hosted by the Belasco Family Foundation, and it’s held right in the backyard of their home on Cranberry Pond in Hilton. The proceeds go to the Eastman School of Music. $1.5 Million Gift Supports Eastman Theatre Expansion

Akron teen eyes ‘home piano advantage’ at Eastman contest

Joseph Mohan, whose first music lessons were in Batavia, is among 23 rising international stars at eight-day Young Artist competition.
Joseph Mohan, 17, of Akron begins competing Monday in the 2010 Eastman Young Artists International Piano Competition, which has participants from six different countries. Mohan has had the shortest distance to travel for the Rochester contest.
Nearly two dozen teen pianists have arrived in Rochester from around the world for an eight-day competition. Six countries are represented in the Eastman Young Artists International Piano Competition, but one of the competitors didn’t have far to travel.
