Advice for new ESM students: <\/strong>Nurture your relationship with YOURSELF first !! You are the only relationship you are guaranteed, ensuring you are healthy and treating yourself as you deserve is the BEST formula for seeking experiences greater than yourself here at Eastman\/UR.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Advice for new ESM students:<\/strong> Time management is key to reducing stress. I’d recommend putting your major commitments, especially classes and lessons, in Google Calendar. You might also want to schedule some of your practice time in your calendar. (At the same time, try to avoid over-practicing.) While extracurricular activities, such as joining clubs or working on-campus jobs, are enjoyable, make sure not to over-commit yourself, since rest and socializing are important. In short, try to create a schedule that looks sustainable for an entire semester. Above all, have fun and soak in the experience! Eastman has an incredibly supportive community, and we’re looking forward to welcoming you all.<\/span><\/p>\n

Advice for new ESM Students:<\/strong> Prioritize taking breaks! Moving to a new place and starting school with a bunch of new people can be very overwhelming. It\u2019s very normal to be worried, but you will get more comfortable. The best way to speed that process up is to take breaks and do things you love outside of music.<\/span><\/p>\n

Advice for new ESM Students:<\/strong>\u00a0Although we’re all musicians, it’s important to remember that we’re all human first. We’ll all have our ups and downs, but always remember your why. Eastman is known for its community, so avoid isolating yourself, especially if and when you’re struggling. Remember to take care of yourself and don’t spread yourself too thin. You’ll be presented with a lot of great opportunities, but don’t bite off more than you can chew. As you begin your journey here at Eastman, embrace the joy you’re feeling. Save that joy in a metaphorical bottle so that you can revisit it on days where you might be feeling lost.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Also, everyone is on their own journey to success.
