Congratulations on your acceptance to the Eastman School of Music!<\/h2><\/div><\/div>[\/vc_column_inner][\/vc_row_inner][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner][vc_column_text css=””]Embrace your home away from home at Eastman\u2019s Student Living Center. Develop practical skills and lifelong friendships in a community of musicians. Eastman\u2019s Residential Life program provides opportunities for students to live and learn in the City of Rochester. Eastman guarantees housing for First-Years, Sophomores, and Juniors, while additional Seniors and Graduate Students choose to live on campus.<\/p>\n

At the Eastman School of Music, we house first-year students together. This residential structure provides an opportunity for students to engage with social, recreational, and resource programs. The skills, closeness, and lifetime friendships that students develop as a result of this experience will ease students\u2019 transition into the Eastman community.<\/p>\n

Incoming students\u00a0<\/strong>will have an opportunity to complete a\u00a0Housing Contract and Preferences Form<\/strong> using their New Student Portal. Information regarding this form and other pre-orientation tasks will be shared via email by the Eastman Admissions Office in mid-May.<\/p>\n

New student move-in for the 2025-2026 academic year has been scheduled for the dates listed below. Welcome Week will begin after students have moved into the residence hall and continue until the start of classes.[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text css=””]<\/p>\n

International New Student Move-In<\/strong>: Monday, August 18, 2025 from 9:00AM EST \u2013 4:00PM EST. Move-in scheduling and procedures will be shared as it is made available. Students arriving to Rochester after 4:00PM must contact the Office for Residential Life by 5:00PM EST on Monday, August 11, 2025. Welcome Week events will begin after move-in is complete.<\/p>\n

If you would like to live with a specific first year student, you must indicate this student’s name on your Housing Contract and Preferences Form. This may be found on your Eastman Ready Portal and is due by June 2, 2025<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Please note that such requests will only<\/i> be considered in cases where both students have mutually requested each other.<\/strong> If only one student makes the request, it will not be considered a match.<\/span><\/p>\n

Any packages received before this date will be returned to sender. Please refrain from sending excessive packages prior to your arrival.<\/span><\/p>\n

Letter mail will be sorted to your student mailbox, which will be assigned upon arrival.[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_accordion_tab][vc_accordion_tab title=”How do I get my items into the Student Living Center?”][vc_column_text]On New Student Move-In Day, Eastman Orientation Committee (EOC) members will be running around assisting you in any way they can. All of the doors and elevators will be open, and there will be wheeled bins to help you move your belongings into your room. Things get pretty busy on move-in day, so as long as you come with a bit of patience, you will be moved in before you know it.[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_accordion_tab][vc_accordion_tab title=”How do I get my mail?”][vc_column_text css=””]On Move-In Day, you will receive your mailbox assignment and the combination to your mailbox which is located on the first floor of the Student Living Center.[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_accordion_tab][vc_accordion_tab title=”What are the advantages to living on campus?”][vc_column_text]According to the American Council on Education, college students who live on campus are more satisfied with their experience, earn higher grade point averages, and are more likely to graduate. We provide safe, clean, furnished rooms with comfortable surroundings. Our main priority is to ensure that students are provided with an opportunity to have a community of peers, experience mutual respect with a roommate and a hall, share learning experiences with hall and floor mates, and get involved with the many University-wide activities and opportunities available.[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_accordion_tab][vc_accordion_tab title=”How do I introduce myself to my roommate?”][vc_column_text]Roommate information is included with your housing assignment letter. We encourage you to contact your roommate before arriving at Eastman. It will be helpful for you to get to know each other, as well as plan on what items each person will be responsible for bringing. Remember to be open and respectful to your roommate, and your roommate should do the same for you. Living with another person can be a good learning experience, so try to be patient and understanding.[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_accordion_tab][vc_accordion_tab title=”What if I don’t like my roommate?”][vc_column_text]First year\/incoming students aren’t assigned single spaces unless an accommodation with Disability Services<\/a> is provided. Our Resident Advisors (RA’s) are trained in conflict mediation and will be available to help roommates overcome any challenges. The Department for Residential Life also has roommate agreements available and are required to be completed individually and with their roommate(s). Knowing ahead of time what your personal boundaries and comfort level is important but also to be open minded to new people and new experiences.
