Reopening In Person Activities at the ECMS

December 2, 2020

Following news that the Eastman Campus was included in the “Orange Zone” on November 23, the Eastman Community Music School (ECMS) suspended all in-person activities effective Tuesday, November 24. This was not mandated by the orange zone status, but was done with caution and concern for the safety of our community.

After a week of online-only teaching, we have reviewed the actions taken by public schools in the orange zone who have launched thorough testing of their students and reopened for hybrid learning on December 2.   We have not seen any student/teacher infection this fall as all of our in person teaching has effectively followed health and safety protocols.

With that in mind we have decided that ECMS will reopen to in person teaching on Thursday, December 3.

For our community’s safety all students must continue to complete the ECMS Health Scan before visiting the school. A link to this scan can be found on the home page of our website.

We have also engaged a new security measure for swipe access to our building at the entrance on Gibbs St. This will ensure that Eastman’s Public Safety staff to are aware of who has entered our building. Students will be able to use their ID card to unlock the front door when they resume learning in person.

Our ultimate responsibility is to the health and safety of our community as well as your musical education. We are not any expecting students or faculty to teach in person if they feel unsafe doing so. Please connect with your teacher to plan final details for future meetings!
