ECMS In-Person Instruction Temporarily Suspended

November 24, 2020

Dear students and families,

First, we want to thank everyone who was studying in person for following all of the guidelines we put in place.  The effectiveness of your actions speaks clearly, as we had no spread of infection between ECMS students and faculty. Recently, in response to increasing number of COVID-19 cases, parts of Rochester (including Eastman’s campus) were designated as an “orange” zone.

Although the new rules do not explicitly specify that we have to move to remote learning, in the interest of public health, we have decided to temporarily suspend all in-person lessons and ensembles for ECMS and move those activities online.  This decision was made after consulting medical experts and upon recommendation of the Rochester Coronavirus University Restart Team (CURT).

We will reevaluate the situation over the next fourteen days and communicate our decision about the teaching mode no later than December 8.  Although our students come from many different parts of the area, not just the “orange” zone, the most responsible course of action is to have a short pause, in hope that this will curtail further spread of infection.

We understand that this decision will introduce change and challenges to some of you, but we know that our faculty will do everything in their power to accommodate your transition.

As soon as we have any additional information we will be in touch, please check your email regularly and visit our COVID website for latest updates.
