All Eastman Students – Undergraduate Quarantine OptionsJuly 22, 2020
Below is a message from University Communications.
For undergraduates arriving from states that are considered by New York to be coronavirus hot spots, a new option for meeting the 14-day self-quarantine requirement has been announced.
There are 600 available slots for undergraduate quarantine space in a variety of on-campus and off-campus locations that the University will assign on a first-come, first-served basis. This option requires arrival on August 1 with an end-date for quarantine of August 14. Unfortunately, there is no flexibility on the dates.
Although housing will be provided free of charge, quarantining students will be responsible for their food costs, using options such as URos or credit card for Grubhub delivery or by using other delivery services.
If you’re interested in the University-sponsored quarantine option, you must register on the RC Reslife Website www.rochester.edu/reslife beginning Wednesday at 10:00am EST. **ESM Students – Please note: You will not be allowed to practice in the RC Riverview Apartments – Please keep this in mind as you make your selection**
The option is one of three currently available to meet the self-quarantine requirement. The other two are:
Wait at your home address until your state is removed from the restricted travel list and then move to campus;
Quarantine independently on your own in the tristate area of New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut for 14 days before moving on campus. The quarantine could be done through independent housing, hotel arrangements off-campus, or through a friend or relative. Students who choose this option must submit proof to Eastman Residential Life that they have met the quarantine requirements prior to arrival on campus.
The Hyatt Regency hotel in downtown Rochester has also worked with the University to offer quarantining undergraduates a discounted rate of $99 per night for a single room, which includes housekeeping supplies and three meals per day provided directly to a student’s room. The offer has flexibility on the dates of the 14-day quarantine period – it does not require the August 1 start date. The $99 per night charge can be applied to a student’s University billing account to avoid the need for a credit card payment.
All undergraduate residential students (with ESM – Student Living Center – Room Assignments) coming from hot spot states and who choose any of these options must notify the University of their plans beginning at 10:00am EST Wednesday, July 22.
All off-campus undergraduates and graduate students arriving from hot spot states should plan to self-quarantine for 14-days in their off-campus residences.
Quarantining Requirements – The requirement for students to self-quarantine for 14-days after arriving in New York is set by the state. The list of restricted states is updated regularly and is based on population and percentage of positive cases.
“Self-quarantine” means that you can’t go out – not to work, school, or public places.
