A student cannot be enrolled in the Diploma program while they are simultaneously enrolled in an Eastman graduate degree program. The Diploma is offered in the following areas:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Bassoon<\/li>\n<li>Cello<\/li>\n<li>Clarinet<\/li>\n<li>Double Bass<\/li>\n<li>Euphonium<\/li>\n<li>Flute<\/li>\n<li>French Horn<\/li>\n<li>Guitar<\/li>\n<li>Harp<\/li>\n<li>Harpsichord<\/li>\n<li>Jazz Double Bass<\/li>\n<li>Jazz Drum Set<\/li>\n<li>Jazz Guitar<\/li>\n<li>Jazz Piano<\/li>\n<li>Jazz Saxophone<\/li>\n<li>Jazz Trombone<\/li>\n<li>Jazz Trumpet<\/li>\n<li>Lute<\/li>\n<li>Oboe<\/li>\n<li>Organ<\/li>\n<li>Percussion<\/li>\n<li>Piano<\/li>\n<li>Saxophone<\/li>\n<li>Trombone<\/li>\n<li>Trumpet<\/li>\n<li>Tuba<\/li>\n<li>Viola<\/li>\n<li>Violin<\/li>\n<li>Voice<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.esm.rochester.edu\/registrar\/policy\/09-00\/#top\"><strong>[back to top]<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<h3><a name=\"09.01.03\"><\/a><\/h3>\n<h3>09.01.03 Curriculum:\u00a0<\/h3>\n<p>The Diploma requires a minimum of 2 semesters of full-time study, with students enrolled in a minimum of 9 units per semester.\u00a0 The curriculum is designed so that there are key elements shared by all students regardless of instrument, but maximum flexibility is maintained so that students can design a course of study that focuses on their individual needs.<\/p>\n<p><em>Applied Music Lessons<\/em>\u00a0\u2013 Students are required to enrolled in applied music lessons with their primary teacher every semester.<\/p>\n<p><em>Ensembles<\/em>\u00a0\u2013 The ensemble requirement may be fulfilled by any combination of large, small, and chamber ensembles, as determined in collaboration with the student\u2019s advisor and applied teacher.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><em>Electives<\/em> \u2013 Students in the diploma program will enroll in a limited number of specific elective courses, pre-determined based on their performance area and developed in consultation with each department.\u00a0 Students will work closely with their advisor in the Office of Academic Affairs and applied teacher to determine an appropriate slate of elective courses to fulfill their requirements.\u00a0 The proposed elective coursework will then be submitted to the Diploma Supervisory Committee for final approval.
