Eastman Immersion – A Gap Year Program for Musicians

About Eastman Immersion

The Eastman School of Music, founded in 1921 for the enrichment of community life, is both rich in tradition, and continues to be at the forefront of musical and academic innovation and excellence.

Eastman Immersion was launched in 2013 as the first music-specific gap year program for students looking to refine and hone their talents at one of the most prestigious music institutions in the world.  Eastman Immersion offers a unique learning opportunity for a customized, full academic year experience for:

  • Musicians seeking an in-depth musical experience prior to enrolling as a full-time student at the collegiate level
  • Students interested in furthering their musical education before going on to a different field of study outside the music world

Eastman Immersion strikes a balance of independence with the strong community and academic support systems already prevalent at the Eastman School of Music.

The program includes one-on-one private lessons with Eastman-affiliated faculty, opportunities to attend and perform in concerts at Eastman’s renowned venues such as Kilbourn Hall and Kodak Hall at Eastman Theatre, and participation in a music-based community service project.  With a personalized program of study for each student, Eastman Immersion’s focus on the individual’s specific goals and aspirations makes it unlike other gap year programs.
