Laura Ross

Laura Ross has been a member of the Nashville Symphony violin section since 1984. She has previously been a member of the Windsor Symphony (1975-77), the Ann Arbor Chamber Orchestra (Principal 2nd Violin 1980-82), the Flint Symphony (1979-82) and the Toledo Symphony (1982-84.) Laura was raised in Royal Oak, MI studying with Emily Mutter Austin. She holds both a Bachelor of Music and a Master of Music from the University of Michigan (Ann Arbor) where she studied with Angel Reyes.

Laura has served on the Nashville Symphony orchestra committee, including as chair of the committee, and has participated in every contract negotiation since 1990. In 1995, Harold Bradley, President of the Nashville Association of Musicians, Local 257 AFM, appointed Laura to the position of Nashville Symphony Union Steward. In 2000, 2003 and 2006, she was elected to the Executive Board of Local 257 and as one of Local 257’s AFM Convention Delegates.

Nationally, Laura previously served the Regional Orchestra Players’ Association (ROPA) as Member-At-Large from 1991-94 and as ROPA Secretary from 1994-2000. The Nashville Symphony joined the International Conference of Symphony and Opera Musicians (ICSOM) in 2000. In 2002, Laura was elected and continues to serve as Secretary of ICSOM. Additionally, she is a member of the ICSOM Electronic Media Committee that negotiates numerous national symphonic recording agreements.
